Pre and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation in Table View
Pre & Post-Surgical Physiotherapy
Preparation and recovery support for surgery. Optimise healing, restore strength and return to full function safely and efficiently.
What is pre and post-surgical rehabilitation?
Pre and post-surgical rehabilitation prepares your body for surgery and guides your recovery afterwards. Surgery is only part of your treatment journey. The work you do before and after the procedure significantly impacts your outcomes, recovery speed and long-term function.
Pre-surgical physiotherapy strengthens your body, improves flexibility and teaches you exercises you’ll need after surgery. Going into an operation stronger, more mobile and better informed leads to faster, more complete recovery. You’ll spend less time in hospital and regain function more quickly.
Post-surgical rehabilitation guides your healing through structured, progressive treatment. After surgery, tissues need time to heal, but they also need controlled movement and loading to heal properly. Too much activity risks complications, while too little leads to stiffness, weakness and prolonged recovery.
Your surgeon repairs the damaged structure, but physiotherapy restores your function. Surgery addresses the structural problem, but returning to your normal activities requires rebuilding strength, mobility and movement patterns. This process takes time, expert guidance and consistent effort.

Surgeries we support
Pre and post-surgical physiotherapy supports your recovery from orthopaedic, gynaecological and other surgical procedures.
Knee surgery
ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, knee replacement and cartilage procedures. Pre-surgical strengthening improves outcomes while post-surgical rehabilitation restores mobility, rebuilds strength and ensures safe return to activity.
Shoulder surgery
Rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilisation, labrum repair and shoulder replacement. Structured rehabilitation protects healing tissues while progressively restoring range of motion and functional strength.
Hip surgery
Hip replacement, hip arthroscopy, labrum repair and FAI surgery. Pre-surgical preparation strengthens supporting muscles while post-surgical care restores mobility and prevents complications like dislocation.
Spinal surgery
Disc surgery, spinal fusion and decompression procedures. Rehabilitation focuses on safe movement patterns, core stability and gradual return to normal activities while protecting the surgical site.
Ankle and foot surgery
Achilles repair, ankle ligament reconstruction and foot procedures. Treatment restores weight-bearing capacity, rebuilds strength and ensures proper gait patterns.
Gynaecological surgery
Hysterectomy, prolapse repair and other pelvic surgeries. Pelvic floor rehabilitation addresses core and pelvic floor function, prevents complications and supports complete recovery.
What to expect from treatment
Pre-surgical physiotherapy typically involves 1 to 2 sessions before your operation, unless otherwise suggested by the surgeon. This gives us time to strengthen key muscles, improve mobility and prepare you for post-surgical recovery.
Post-surgical frequency depends on your surgery type. During post-surgical rehabilitation, you may need to attend more frequently. As recovery progresses, sessions will reduce in frequency. Total rehabilitation duration varies from 6 weeks for minor procedures to 6-12 months for major reconstructions.
Each session includes hands-on treatment and supervised exercise. We also prescribe home exercises that form the foundation of your recovery. Your commitment to daily exercises significantly impacts your recovery speed.
